"We are confident of beginning the actual work inside this June," said MAN Siddique, overseeing head of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL), the actualizing organization of the task.
When the rail line, officially known as Mass Rapid Transit Line-1 or MRT-1, is finished, it is ready to convey 8 lakh travelers day by day. The rail line is required to be done in 2026.
The 31.24km MRT Line-1 will have two sections – around 19.87km from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Kamalapur with 16.4km underground lines and around 11.36km raised lines from Notun Bazar to Purbachal.
It would have 19 stations, of which 12 would be underground and seven raised.
The MRT Line-1 will be second among the six lines to be inherent the capital and its neighboring territories to ease gridlock and control natural contamination.
The public authority has taken up an arrangement to construct the 128.74km metro rail organization – 67.56km raised and 61.17km underground – with 104 stations inside 2030.

UNDERGROUND RAIL LINE

The Purbachal part will have stations at Notun Bazar, Bashundhara, Police Officers' Housing Society, Mastul, Purbachal West, Purbachal Center and Purbachal East.
The warehouse would be set up at Pitalganj in Narayangaj's Rupganj. The Notun Bazar station would fill in as an exchange.
The DMTCL specialists had an arrangement to begin the actual work in December. However, they needed to change the arrangement because of the Covid-19 pandemic, MAN Siddique said.
He said they are currently settling the delicate records prior to sending it to Japan for endorsement inside this month.
In the interim, the specialists have begun land obtaining for building stop and warehouse's frontage road in Rupganj's Pitalganj and Brahmankhali moujas. A sum of 93 sections of land of land would be obtained for the reason, as per the undertaking archives.
